Rationalism: The Lie that You Can Find God in Your Mind
Based on Genesis 11:1-9

Human reason is perhaps the greatest earthly gift of God to man, but there are some truths in the Bible that the human mind is incapable of fully comprehending. Rationalism is the trap of supposing we must make the incomprehensible teachings of God’s Word rational to our minds. Rationalism comes with great dangers to our faith. Clinging to the Word of God and trusting what it says, even when it defies human reason, is what brings God the most glory and man the most comfort.

God’s Word is so ordinary and plain. It’s tempting to want to find God or hear God speak to you in ways that are not so ordinary and plain, more extraordinary and personal. This is the lie of mysticism. The truth and the antidote to mysticism are found in Christ and his Word.
